Anyone who knows Martin Tielli from the Rheostatics would have at some point questioned the musicians sanity. Yup, the man is a little out there but they say that’s what makes a genuis. Nick Buzz is a version of something like Mr. Bungle or Tom Waits but with Teilli at the helm. The sound on Circo is circus like, especially wacky on some tracks like “Fornica Tangowith what sounds like a seal squacking throughout. Tielli states that the first ever concert that he ever attended was a Bruce Cockburn/ Murray McLaughlin show and now he is actually performing with many of the same musicians. Jonathan Goldsmith (piano), Rob Piltch (guitar), and Hugh Marsh (violin) all accompany Martin on this long, strange trip you are about to take. They got together to record a Joni Mitchell song for a tribute album and the rest, as they say, is history. Originally released in 1996, the masses devoured the short run, independently released album. Now, Six Shooter is proud to release it once again. Like I said, this is a strange album but if you have the time and patience (read: 5-10 listens) you will be rewarded with one of the most compelling releases that Tielli has ever played a part of.
