As the seventies wore on, I became increasingly disillusioned with Black Sabbath. They seemed to be in the business of rehashing their earlier stuff and the brief foray into the world of synthesisers may have helped the band stave off collapse, but it was not a style they progressed with. Am I Going Insane marks the best of Black Sabbath after their first five albums. It signalled a return to the original roots after "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath"'s flirtation with synthesisers. The synthesisers were still there, but this time they were pushed somewhat into the background to be replaced with guitars once more as the driving musical force. Sadly, it went all downhill from here.
Incidentally, the often asked question about the word radio in brackets is apparently derived cockney rhyming slang for mental (as in insane) - Radio Rental.
