Probably the best instrumental ever to hit the charts, this moody, smoky soul number is redolent with the dingy basement clubs and packed dance floors from which it sprang. If any number epitomised the mod culture of the early sixties urban Britain then this was it. Underpinned by a quite glorious organ sound and hook, this track demanded that you get up and dance. Yet it was a sound designed for the overly packed club, where energetic dancing was out of the question, so you just stand and sway - and this is the perfect accompaniment. And who can forget Sting doing that unique and often copied standstill dance to this track during the film "Quadrophenia". Marvellous!
