With the vocals growing increasingly anxiety-laden, almost manic as the track progresses, this is one of Bowie's greatest individual tracks. Indeed, the vocal style on this track is the culmination of one Bowie seemed to have been developing over the years. No one has ever quite managed it in the same way and I doubt anyone ever will. What I find ironic is that the release of Heroes came at a time when Bowie was, in my opinion, producing some rather dire stuff. I have never been a great fan of Brian Eno's production style let alone his music so the collaboration with said Eno may have been part of the reason for my dislike. However, you can tell that this is a class track by the simple fact that, of the few covers ever attempted, all have been desperately bad.
