I really can't think of a better way to usher in the St Patrick's Day season than with a new album from everyone's favorite Celt-punks Dropkick Murphys. This week the band released their seventh studio album Going Out In Style.

Those like to hear artists push boundaries and do something different are barking up the wrong tree with DKM. There are few surprises on the new album, it's simply fourteen blasts of fun, hard music blended with enough bagpipe and accordion to keep things stepping lively.

The bagpipes and gang vocals on songs like "Hang 'Em High" and "Deeds Not Words" sweep you up in the action. The high octane "Walk Don't Run" is the only pure punker on the record, but with songs like the high octane defiant title track, it doesn't seem out of place at all.

The band slow it down a bit on "Cruel", a track that hearkens back to DKM classic such as "Forever" and "The Torch". They build a hopeful breeze on "Memorial Day", while "Take 'Em Down" and "Sunday Hardcore Matinee" alternately stomp and reel.

The standout of the record is "Peg O' My Heart". This irresistible number will have you singing along and dancing on the very first listen. It doesn't hurt that Bruce Springsteen contributes vocals either.

The most recognizable cover this time around would be "The Irish Rover". It's hard to believe that DKM haven't taken a stab at this one before. It's a little rough around the edges, meaning The Pogues version remains the seminal one for me.

If DKM truly do go out with this album, then they certainly will be going out in style.

One thing is for sure about the Dropkick Murphys. You are never going to be disappointed. You know exactly what you are going to get and album after album they are going to deliver it. Others may have tried the same thing (the Scrum for example), but this raucous so-called Celtic punk has more to do with singing songs in a drunken celebration after a victory at rugby than anything else. Even the band's name is so essentially Irish rugby that it could hardly be anything else.

But hey, isn't that what you listen to the Dropkick Murphys for? I mean, if you wanted variation, subtlety, clever lyrics or thoughtful passages of deep and meaningful shit, then you would listen to something else. No, you want that rapid fire delivery of smart-arsed lyrics; you want those jangling chords. You want that relentless drumming and that is what you get with "Going out in Style" just like you get with any other Dropkick Murphys album.

And why not. The Dropkick Murphys are all about having a good time, and in an age when far too many musical acts take themselves so seriously they have disappeared up their own backsides, the Dropkick Murphys continued adherence to the principle of leaping around like a maniac having a good time is strangely refreshing.

In that sense, "Going out in Style" is as good as any Dropkick Murphys album is going to be. After all, why would anyone need more than one Dropkick Murphys album? Once you have heard one you have pretty much heard the format of every single one of them. And so, one Dropkick Murphys album it is to be then. And here with are with "Going out in Style".

Have a good old stomp along with the acoustic "Take Em Down". Cheer along to the title track and end with a rousing cover of a traditional Irish song like "Irish Rover". The Dropkick Muphys might have a banjo now, but they are still the same old Dropkick Murphys and they have been doing this sort of thing for nigh on fifteen years now so they know exactly what they are doing. So, if you feel like a bit of fun with the lads, a drunken singalong which will piss off your neighbours and make your wife think youve gone stark staring mad, put on "Going out in Style". But if you want something original, look elsewhere.
