Former Clannad vocalist Enya achieved an unlikely worldwide hit with this wonderful tune. Sadly, it has since been played to death by soporific late night DJ's on trash stations such as Magic FM and Smooth FM down here in London. But, as with so many other songs, one should never let over familiarity alone be a reason for writing off a good song.

I never understood what it was about this song which made it so good. Enya had a haunting voice which was ideally suited to this music, and the fact that vocals were overlaid and overlaid to the extent that it was hard to identify where a musical instrument was being played instead of a sampled vocal, made it even more intriguing. I have a friend who to this day maintains there is a not a single musical instrument played on the track. Whatever, the production is of course amazing, but in the end it is just the ability of this song to transport you away which makes it such a joy to listen to.
