Cee-Lo is the first member of the Goodie Mob to make a solo effort. With Cee-Lo stepping out, he decides to go flamboyant and gets down with some very funky tracks like the single "Closet Freak". He plays it big with some great production and in your face rhymes that really make a splash. "Closet Freak" sounds like a crazy evangalist speaking to his followers in a panic style. There are horns and very interesting orchestration that hasn't been done before. Perfect Imperfections has very rare imperfections indeed. Instead of sticking to his tried and true formula that he mastered with the Goodie Mob, Cee-Lo ventures into a neo-soul persona and hits the nail on the head. Perfect Imperfections is one of the most original rap albums to come out in the last couple of years. He chooses to let himself be the highlight of the album with no big guest artists being involved. The only one, which is a bit of a surprise, is Blues Traveller John Popper playing harmonica on "Country Love". The album may not please die-hard Goodie Mob fans but in the end it is a good thing that Cee-Lo is venturing out and trying new things. It's a breath of fresh air in an ever crowding genre.
