Clouddead - Clouddead
Clouddead is one of the most original hip hop groups I have heard in a while. They are a full-on atmospheric rap group. One that you can even trip out to while you listen to. Throw out any preconceived notions about hip hop when you listen to Clouddead because you are going to be in for a big surprise. What this album consists of is 6 Ten Inch singles that Clouddead recorded over a year in the Cincinnati and Bay Area with a host of different guests. They are part of the Anticon Collective who had done all their promotion selling tapes and cheap internet promotion. They rap a bit like Cypress Hill in the way that they literally just lay right back and rhyme. A better comparison might be DJ Shadow in the way he can mix up pretty much anything and it remains laid back in the fullest sense. It would almost be impossible to shake your rump to Clouddead. Its more music for laying back and smoking big bats. Clouddead consist of Dose One, why, and Odd Nosdam. Dose One and why are the main rappers and Odd Nosdam is the killer DJ that provides all the wicked samples and beats. This is one for the eclectics out there and it will go down as a step in the right direction for hip hop.
