The Dilated Peoples must be one of the most hyped rap groups in a long time. Finally the band gets an opportunity to lay their grooves down in a studio for their first album. The California based group has been around in some form or another since 1992 with tracks on compilations and internet downloads. Beatmaster and superb rapper Evidence is in the limelight for most of this album. And with just cause. His vocal style is up there with Mos Def. The group is rounded out with Iriscience and DJ Babu. You can't really call them old school either, although they borrow alot from rap's past, they add too many new elements to their mix and with the help of friends Aceylone, B Real and Tha Alkaholiks they provide one of this years highlights. Topics range from straight fun to actual political statements. Hip Hop is alive and well and making a strong comeback with groups like Dilated Peoples and Jurassic 5 leading the way.
