Accordion playing folkie from Vancouver who is really attaining a cult-like status. Imagine, if you will, Dan Bern being raised in Italy, using the Accordion rather than his guitar and you can kind of envision what Geoff Berner sounds like. His songs are brilliantly written and intelligently thought out. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some of these songs cover by some reputable big named artist. Geoff invites a few friends in for the recording sessions but I will leave those as a surprise for you. It’s basically Berner’s song’s that keep fans coming back for more. His accordion playing is really impressive to the uninitiated. While some may just view Mr. Berner as a novelty act, there is more to it than just that. His songs are catchy as hell. Take “Maginot Line for instance; you can’t walk away without the Tom Waits styled gait in your head. Be sure to watch for him on tour as well. I have a feeling seeing him in a coffee shop might be exactly what the doctor ordered.
