Like on most Explosions In The Sky albums, tracks transition with the smoothest of times. Unlike previous EITS albums, "Take Care, Take Care, Take Care", has an extra special something, almost an extra carefulness, no pun intended
For instance, track two, "Human Qualities" begins with an ever so slightly tossing of clean sounding electric guitar strings, all the while a near track skip is humming along the beat when at three minutes into the song, nyet, the sound has come to a small crawl. Seemingly an actual heartbeat recording soothes this into a nullified intermission. After a continous progressive build up, nearly seven minutes in, the drums come in to kick this song into high gear.
While the first video off TC, is "Last Known Surroundings...", personally I think the most diverse and appealing track is "Postcard from 1952". Gangster and golden all at once, with so many hills and valleys, its impossible for the unknowing ears NOT to invariably ask, "Hey, who is that?". Also fantastic is the closing track "Let Me Back", which feature a much more signature electric guitar tone.
The most standard format and song here is probably track three, "Trembling Hands". From the immediately pace intro and voice sampling, this song has a constant rush of meldoy and excitement on a mostly atmospheric release.
Tasty instrumental rock with an edge as always, EITS has done it again. BUY, BUY, BUY

It's fun to play "pretend we were in the band" and point out the things we'd like to see them do different. For me, I think EITS would very much benefit from just the right vocalist. Not just anyone. It would have to be something that fits the music. It would both add to the overall sound picture and give the boys something new to wrap their melodies around, perhaps even improving their somewhat stale songwriting. Again, nothing much wrong with this record, but perhaps a vocalist is something that would give them a boost forward. Or maybe doubling the length of their songs, adding another 5 members, and utilizing tape loops ala Godspeed You Black Emperor? Haha.

I was the same as Solitary, I reached back and was going to put this on my year end list but it just seemed too much like all previous Explosions In The Sky albums. It's good, but they need to change. I feel like I felt with Mogwai a few albums back. They eventually changed and I really liked their new sound. Here's hoping that EITS can do the same. A little reinvention is in order.

While I'm hesitant to say the sound of EITS has run it's course, I seem to have come to a point where either what they do is not as impacting to me as it once was, or perhaps they're not doing it exactly the same. It's hard for me to tell without dipping back into their older albums, the ones in which I could get lost in for hours. I don't necessarily think there's anything wrong with Take Care x3, but it doesn't galvanize itself in my mind the way other records have. The last two tracks are the entire album and much of the band's past summed up in 17 minutes. "Let Me Back In" has a different feel to it in parts as well, showing evolution in an, with all due respect, minimal sound picture the band lives in. Most EITS fans will adore this record, and I certainly enjoy it, but it lacks a certain something for me. Or perhaps I now lack a certain something for it...such is the nature of our relationships with music.
