This was a great one hit wonder from the eighties. Though not an original song, Kim Carnes sings it with aplomb and has truly made it her own. What makes it stand out, apart from the superb arrangement of the song, is Carnes' distinctive, hoarse almost masculine voice. It caused a sensation in the UK when it came out and the first time it was played on Top of the Pops, Mike Read wondered if she looked like Rod Stewart as well as sang like him. That may have been unfair, but it goes to show the impact her voice had on the track.
