The MC's Danceable Grooves

The MC's Believe Their Own Hype

http://www.ariccharlesmusic.com

A 4 song CD, Danceable Grooves fell into my hands recently along with four exceedingly long and cluttered unnecessary pages of bio information on this band called the MC's.

Automatically I didnt like them. Here were four pages of disorganized mess talking about other bands painfully morphing into this unnecessary one; some guy named Aric and his availability to give guitar lessons, and a list of everywhere he and his God-forsaken music have ever set foot. He also has the temerity to describe each and every song he has apparently ever written with brief descriptions like Summer time - up beat/funky, or I Do- Up Beat Pot Song.

From this page alone I knew what variety musician Aric Charles is. The kind that thinks because he can put 2-3 chords together that somehow it matters, and so does he. He's so pretentious and full of himself I'm surprised he isn't playing heavy metal. But no, there's an excessive use of the word funky on the bio pages, so I'll let you draw your own conclusions.

This aside, I really did try to listen to the CD objectively. But I found out what I already knew; The MC's blew. I could tell Aric believes the inanities that fly out of his mouth about partying. His vocal delivery sounds like John Lovitz doing his Master Thespian bit on SNL.

"Lola" has a really nice guitar lead in the middle, which is sort of unexpected as the rest of the song just makes me want to punch someone/something repeatedly.

"Downtown" is indeed funky, as promised in the press kit. It's as though Wonder Bread was sponsoring the whitest cliche filled get your groove on frat boy song contest. Aric declares repeatedly that he . . . doesn't want to go. But he is in the minority here. There's an endless chanting of Friday/Saturday like maybe he lost his day planner and is unsure of when he needs to show up for his shift at Applebee's. He's as sincere as a freshman during pledge week and twice as annoying.

There was one song which I sort of liked. I played the track a few time to make sure I'd somehow made a mistake. But no, "Sideways Track" is rather listenable. It sounds vaguely like the sort of, kind of, almost minor hit Steel Breeze or Orion the Hunter had in the early 1980's. If they had more songs that sounded like this, I could probably stand to listen to them.

I got this CD for free and somehow I still feel as though I am paying dearly for it.

In summation: The MC's/Aric Charles Music-pretentious/turd.
