Hardly the sort of thing you'd expect to hear from the Flamin' Groovies - jangly guitars, close male harmonies and a sing-along refrain, this is the Flamin' Groovies meets the Hollies. Although released in 1974, this would not have been out of place as a bubblegum single had it been released a decade earlier. If you like your Flamin' Groovies down and dirty, don't pin too any expectations on "You Tore Me Down".
Now you may think that this sort of sentiment would cause me not to like it. While it is true that, as a Flamin' Groovies' song I find it a little peculiar and out of place given the band's usual garage style, I have to say that this is a really pleasant and entertaining little number. So much so that when I replaced my CD-R copy of "Teenage Head" with a store bought CD and found that the latter was a different extended version to the former and lacked "You Tore Me Down", I went back on Limewire to find and download it.
Now isn't that a touching little tale of musical loyalty?
