I am still not sure if I actually like this or just got overly familiar with it and it stuck in my head. In the UK we have a so-called independent radio station called XFM. In spite of its so called status, it simply plays the playlists it is given by the record companies, so its output is dominated by Keane, Snow Patrol and the Arctic Monkeys. Of course, mention the name "The Enemy" and everyone at the station has a collective orgasm.
What has this to do with "The Pretender"? Well, one day, Dave Grohl rolled up and gave an interview and a couple of tickets to a gig. For the next few weeks, XFM shamelessly plugged "The Pretender", hence the adhesion to my brain. I have to say, though, it marks a welcome return to something more like rock from the Foo Fighters. There is the by now well-anticipated quiet-loud-quiet format, but this one really does rock. A vast improvement I'd say on the of the stuff they have been putting out for much of the previous ten years.
