This self-released set by Italian duo Le Scimmmie (loosely translated as The Monkeys, or The Apes) is a huge slab of sound that deserves a label to call home. "Dromomania" is a punishing ten song  set equal  in power and mayhem to other noise duos, including Lightning Bolt. What sets them apart is the menace to many of these songs, a vibe that suggests dementia-but in a good way, the kind that makes you a little scared when seeing them live, but strangely more alive because of it.

The two part "Athazagorafobi a" is a shit-storm of power and distortion, and "Frekete" and "Nostofobia" are not far behind. A few of the songs do have discernable melodies, melodies which are surprisingly catchy when employed. "Frustrazione Della Psiche" may be the best title ever, and it is certainly a whopper of a volume assault.

Le Scimmie are fun, catchy, brazen and fucked up. All the things any band should have in its toolbox, but especially noise bands, who tend to be a little short on the humor. Hard to tell if anything on "Dromomania" was meant for laughs, but the guys are obviously having too much fun here to be taking themselves all that seriously.
