It’s been a while since Ollie Teeba and Jake Wherry have hit us with a new studio recording but rest assured it was worth the wait. I had the pleasure of catching their Very Mercenary tour which Ollie and Jake were joined by a full band and it was one of the best live shows I have seen. And they listened to my wishes too and released Session One, a document of this amazing live show. They obviously listened to more than myself because The Herbaliser has decided to use more live instruments on Something Wicked This Way Comes both with actual instrumentation and live sampled instruments. The album starts off with an appropriatly ghostly track called “Something Wicked featuring the the mind-blowingly spooky Seaming To. On “Verbal Anime the boys bring Dilated Peoples’ Raaka Iriscience into the studio. There are a few other guests on Wicked but the essence lies in what The Herbaliser do themselves. Their samples and playing is superb and craftier than ever. So if you are like me and totally enjoyed The Herbaliser live then you will take comfort in knowing that there are some very “live feeling tracks on Wicked. One listen to “The Turnaround’ will have you bopping till tomorrow.
