Hi-Tek - Hi-Teknology
Hi-Teknology is an album that is long overdue. Cincinatti’s Hi-Tek has been producing hip hop albums since the mid 90s and besides the Taleb Kweli album, Reflection Eternal, he hasn’t had his own album out yet. The afformentioned album was an important one for the Rawkus label, selling well and getting a lot of exposure. His first blast was working on Black Star’s eponymous debut album. Now Hi-Tek have people praising his producing skills. Need proof? Look no further than the guest MC’s on the album: Common, Talib Kweli, Main Flow, Donte, Cormega, Mos Def, Slum Village, Buckshot, and the beautiful voice of Jonell. Hi-Teknology almost reads like a who’s who of underground hip hop. The project could have got out of hand, coming off sounding like a compilation but Hi-Tek manages to weave all the different styles of the MC’s together making a very cohesive album. One of the outstanding tracks on Hi-Teknology is “Suddenly where Hi-Tek chooses to use a very cool latin sample while Donte and Main Flow of MOOD weave their rhymes into it. Then of course there are the two Jonell tracks, “Round & Round and the title track. This album should only bring more respect to Hi-Tek.
