Of all the singles that he put out, this was to me the most instantly recognisable and memorable. I may have liked "Lady D'Arbanville" as well and found "Matthew and Son" a bit off putting (probably because at school we all used to sing along Steptoe and Son) but it was "Wild World" which made me listen. Yet it is odd that his most memorable track wasn't given its first airing under his name - it was a Jimmy Cliff hit the year before, though Stevens did do some of the production for it apparently. Stevens later de-reggaefied it and turned it into a hit for himself as well.

Such is life - Muslim convert against Jamaican rasta. Now theres a thought!
