The old Martha & the Vandellas number given the modern pop once over by Bowie and Jagger. Extremely danceable and accompanied by a very slick video, this was the epitome of all that was good and bad about eighties pop. The guys' jackets had such wide shoulder pads on that they virtually knocked each others heads off as they swung round. The idea behind this originated with the Live Aid concert when Bowie and Jagger performed this together. At the time it may have seemed like a good idea to record this. In retrospect, I am not sure if they still think it was.
Still, joking aside, it was a pretty poor trick to back this 12 inch single with two variant versions of the A-side. You would have thought that these two giants of modern rock could have come up with something better than that. Having said that, if the only reason for the existence of the single is the popularity Bowie and Jagger's version of the song achieved during the Live Aid concerts then it is hardly surprising that some record label executive saw and opportunity for a fast buck and drove straight towards it.
