New Orleans blues was different from other types of blues insofar as it was dominated by the piano. This sort of boogie woogie music, often known as barrelhouse, was epitomised by "Champion" Jack Dupree. " Warehouse Man Blues" was one of his more famous numbers while " Chain Gang Blues" had been recorded by many blues guitarists and was unusual in being adapted for piano. Dupree often sang in affected ways, frequently lisping. His music was often humourous and upbeat, though he could also sing some really miserable stuff. He had perhaps greater success in Europe where he toured many times, eventually dying in Hamburg.
