The Crimea are a classic example of what happens to a promising band when they league themselves with the Devil on the Devil's terms. Their first album, issued on the Warner label, was an excellent piece of indie pop music. However, despite that, Warner couldn't help but fuck around, issuing different track listings and different covers for the same album released in the UK and the USA. Why is beyond me? Do they think that either the Brits or Yanks are too intellectually stupid to appreciate the same music and cover art? Or does a major record label just want to fuck around with someone's art for reasons such as it might make them more money?
"CharlesMartel, you're chosen specialist subject on Mastermind is the bleedin' obvious".
Then for their second album, Warner, one of those self-proclaimed fosterers of new musical talent, dropped the Crimea. And so "Loop-a-Loop" emerges after this period, a sad and somewhat wistfully regretful little song on a digital only file. Davie McManus still uses his distinctive voice to powerful effect in creating an atmosphere. I wonder what he was thinking about?
