Yuji Oniki has the ability to write a catchy AOR song that sounds like many other songs but yet not sounding like anything you have ever heard before. On Orange, Yuji has teamed up with Doug Gillard (Guided By Voices), Bill Swan and Steve St. Cin (both from Beulah) to create a fabulous mellow mix of tracks. He goes through many different types of musical styles as well as singing in both English and Japanese. The tracks are all laid back in a loungy sort of way with horns and such accompanying him. He would not seem out of place playing in Las Vegas. There are many times he reminds me of Elliott Smith and then others he sound a bit like Elvis Costello. This really is a gem. Run out and order this. You won't be disappointed.
