Son House is the missing link in the chain of blues artists between Henry Sloan and the rock acts of the sixties and seventies. A deeply religious man, much of his work carries with it overtones of redemption and salvation through God, even if it not explicitly stated all the time. "Mississippi Country Farm Blues" was one of his more significant early releases. It deals with the usual blues themes of the hard life of the indentured share cropper and the promise of better to come in the afterlife. Son Houses distinctive style of guitar picking is clearly evident here and this is recommended to anyone interested in the history of the delta blues and its impact on modern popular music.
