Where would we be without this track? Possibly one of the single most influential singles of all time, the title has provided us with the name of a band whose fame outstripped that of the originator of the song, and has been referenced in the titles of a dozen or more songs (Bob Dylan and the Temptations to name but two), and in the lyrics of many, many more.

The story of how this song changed popular music for ever is almost the stuff of legend. Muddy Waters took the delta blues with him to Chicago and gave it an electric makeover, thereby changing the face of popular music forever. No single song in the history of western popular music has done more to create the sound we know today, the sound which brought the simple blues of the share-cropper and the slave before him, derived from the rhythms of West Africa, and into the home of the white man.

The song is simple and straightforward, and displays some cool guitar work which sounds almost like a slide guitar in places. And Muddy Waters voice has never sounded so clear and yet so gruff at the same time. Absolutely ground-breaking stuff!
