In Bloom
All My Potential
In Bloom is trapped in a time space continuum, where music ceased to be made past 1994. They sound as though they're straight out of Seattle and the over hyped grunge scene. Even their name is copped from a track on NeverMind, and you know what, it's o-k.
There are strong melodies, catchy guitar riffs and the occasional harmony on a chorus or phrase. It would be easy to slag an artist off for not being so original it hurts, well, everyone's guilty of sounding like someone else on occasion. In Bloom just use every song they play to sound like all their favorite records.
I could see this band developing their own unique voice if they can manage to stay together. In the meantime they sound a lot like the songs that weren't hits by the Gin Blossoms, Everclear, Mudhoney and Smashing Pumpkins.
If you ever yearn for a simpler time when Bill Clinton was in the White House, MTV occasionally played music videos and the Jersey Shore was just a destination, don't fret, clearly you're not alone. Listening to In Bloom allows you to be retro and contemporary at the same time.
