Although I do like this single, it remains a rather pompous and overblown cover of the Walker Brother's original. Midge Ure had finally found the success he had craved for several years across several different bands with Ultravox and was able to put out a series of rather lugubrious works in his own name. This was one, probably the best of the bunch. The guitar solo is worth waiting for mind you as it really is the make or break of the song. And what it does is make the song without any doubt. Perhaps the real surprise is the moody and somewhat oppressive instrumental B-Side, "Mood Music" which is led by a really melancholy piano line. A definite surprise but one which has a quality all its own.
