One of the best pop songs of its generation, "True Faith" marked the last truly great release New Order put out. This in many ways was one last look back at their post punk roots before they abandoned them forever and sailed into the sterile ocean of techno dance which took them to the end of their journey and, in all probability brought them more recognition than they had so far acheived.

"True Faith" had practically everything. Great hook line, memorable, simple lyrics all contributed to the effect. The B-side, "1963" was pretty good too, but the addition of a rather pointless "True Dub" somewhat spoilt the overall effect being a rather sparse and unappetising remix of the A-Side, and this drags down the overall rating. However, nothing could be as bad as the truly appaling cover of this done recently by George Michael.

After this, I gave up on New Order. I had seen them in concert and been disappointed by the fact that most of the backing vocals were lip-synched and the drummer was supported by a machine. I realised the band which had started out with so much promise, building on the death of Ian Curtis, was not for me.
