You may not recognize the name Glen Phillips but after a brief listen to Abulum you will realize that Glen was the front man for 90's pop sensations Toad The Wet Sprocket. Remember "Walk on the Ocean" or "Fall Down"? Now on his own, Glen has crafted quite a debut solo album. He hasn't really stepped that far from the shoes he was in fronting his old band but his songwriting has improved. He has included some upbeat folky tracks such as "Men Just Leave" and quiet melodies like "Train Wreck". Glen's voice is still as compelling as ever. Check out one of the catchiest tracks on the album "Fred Meyer" with it's cool shuffle and brilliant lyrics, 'Was a red brick Meyers / Sold everything from fruit to tires'. Glen Phillips will always have his great songwriting talents and Abulum is yet another testament of his abilities.
