Remember the Canadian band the Morganfields? No, and neither to too many people, which is a shame because they were a great Canadian talent. I remember watching them a few times at the Republik here in Calgary and they were great shows. I digress. Alun Piggins was the lead in the Morganfields and he has finally stepped out with his debut solo album entitled Balladesque. He has been busy doing loads of other things though engineering a number of albums (Sloan, Hayden, Blue Rodeo, Rheostatics, Bionic…) as well as playing across Ontario with the Quitters and filling in on mandolin with the Mahones. I digress once again. About Balladesque; if you are thinking he is going to rock you like he did in the Morganfields you are dead wrong. This is more of a roots affair that reaches into the heart of every yearning songwriter out there. Think more of a Dylanesque style and you are almost there. Alun really shows us how roots rock is supposed to sound and really tweaks the production to bring out every chord and vocal.
