If "Animal Laugh" drew on African inspired rhythms and sounds, then the follow up single, "Make Believe", came from a completely different source. This was not what the public expected. Yet, as with their earlier releases, it did not make any impression. The only way the Thompson Twins were going to make an impression was by heading down the mainstream. Sadly, that is exactly what they did.
What makes this is the B-Side, "Lama Sabach Tani", which sees the same song put through a reworking of Buddhist or Hindu in inspiration, possibly a Tibetan chant. The diversity which this band drew upon for inspiration was refreshing indeed, and the songs they put out on singles at this stage were pretty compulsive listening.
