Ladies and Gentlemen: we are now floating in space. That’s exactly the way I felt when I listened to the first couple of tracks on The Beginning Stages of the Polyphonic Spree. I knew I would like this album because I have been a fan of Tim DeLaughter (Tripping Daisy) for a number of years. His shows have always been of epic proportion and this ties it all together. What he does with Polyphonic Spree is gathers an astounding 29 members (plus or minus a few from time to time) and done an indie vocal symphony. It is more beautiful than you can imagine. While it may sound like overkill, when everyone starts singing along with the string sections like on “Soldier Girl� you can’t help but bow to the genius of Tim. At times it makes the Flaming Lips look like amateurs. Harmonies fly all over the room and the only good way to listen to this album is closely on headphones. There is just so much going on. Good work Tim. This goes beyond even anything that Tripping Daisy could have accomplished.
