This was a true one hit wonder if ever there was one. Howard Jones, in many ways, typified everything that was wrong about the eighties  melodramatic lyrics, over-reliance on electronics both musically and vocally, repetitive dance beats and awful hairstyles. This was the new romantics at their absolute worst. Today, this 12 inch single does nothing but elicit almost visceral hatred in some quarters as exemplifying that worst of the worst quality. Yet that is wholly unfair. At the time it was highly regarded and if even the most vociferous critics take off their pretensions, they will have to admit that, in the day, they liked it too.

In the end, this was so damn infectious you couldn't help but overlook those flaws which made it such an iconic song for the eighties excesses. Although it was in many ways trite and unappealing as well as being horribly over-produced, I will guarantee that back in its heyday, you all loved this. I bet Howard Jones dines out on the royalties from this one to this day as it is truly the only thing he has ever done! The two tracks on the B-Side by contrast are absolutely forgettable and drag the overall rating down.
