If there was one thing which put me off Tom Petty more than anything else, it was his awful nasal whine of a voice. "Free Fallin'" could have been a great song had it not been for that. Instead, it is merely an average to good song. Petty's greatest strength was that he was a good guitarist and he shows off this to good effect here. As usual with a lot of Petty's work, the refrain is something which sticks in your head and lingers long after the rest of the song has passed into limbo. As with anything else I have by Petty, and I accept that is not much, it is something I enjoy when I hear it but do not go hunting it down.
