A pleasant enough song which would be otherwise unremarkable except for one thing. A few years back I was on holiday in Hawaii and as we were walking down the main drag in Waikiki, there was a stage set up in a small square where performers from the local club used to go out and do a couple of numbers. These performers were all tribute artists and it was always kind of interesting to see who they were and how good they were at impersonating their chosen hero. One evening, the Neil Diamond impersonator was out there and a quite large crowd was watching him sing "America". Then suddenly, my three year old daughter got out of her push-chair and started dancing to the music. I had never seen her do anything like that before and she got a round of applause from both the onlooking crowd and the performer. It was one of those magic moments which you wish you could remember forever and the only reason I have any affection for this song at all is purely for that reason.
