I am not normally a fan of seventies soul. This was an age when soul music became corrupted as it morphed into funk and later (urgh) into disco. Funkadelic were an exception to this rule, for every rule must have an exception. If I am allowed two exceptions, this is the second. For a man whose greatest claim to fame is probably "Superfly", this was to my mind Curtis Mayfield's greatest song. Take a load of great sounding horns and add a catchy hook line and sing along chorus and you have the makings of a classic track. If I have one criticism it is that the single version is far too short to sustain the impact that the song makes, in its longer studio version. Still, if you find seventies funk a little difficult to wrap your head around and want to remedy that, I would suggest you start with this.
