I was introduced to Red Animal War by a track on the Emo Diaries fourth compilation. It was a kickin’ tune. Here they are with their delayed debut that sounds just as good, if not better. Breaking in an Angel starts out with a track that reminds me a bit of Jawbox with a chimy distorted guitar bringing in the song and then lead vocalist Justin Wilson enters with his voice that is always on the verge of cracking. Red Animal War (who got their name from a Steven Crane novel) are a band that have the dynamic thing down pat changing gears mid-song in order provide the listener with loads of variety. They fit perfectly into the “Emo category with their heartfelt lyrics and angry breakdowns. Their power lies not only in their creativity with their instruments but their arrangements and lyrics as well. Watch as they move into position to knock fellow emo-core musicians The Promise Ring and Get Up Kids of the podium. It won’t be an issue with this talent. Just a second, I have to hit repeat again.
