When this split EP landed on my desk I got quite excited. Two of my favorite Deep Elm artists on one album. Red Animal War’s debut, Breaking In An Angel was a very impressive album that left you wondering where these guys were going to go next. When Slowride hit me earlier this year with As I Survived the Suicide Bomber I new that this band had some magic that we hadn’t seen in indie music since Jawbox. This split EP has 3 tracks from Red Animal War (“77, “The Electric Kings, and “Modus Operandi) and 3 from Slowride (“Jesus Candle, “Freeway, and “Dear John). The two Dallas bands are similar and yet completely different. It is exciting to see them collaborating like this (they holed themselves in a studio last winter). The tracks are as good if not better than each bands debut. Watch for these two bands as well as more from the Deep Elm split series (this is number 2). If you like this album then be sure to seek out each bands individual efforts.
