Although Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark never quite had the glittering career this single promised, when all is said and done this indie single was their best output. Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark formed part of the new wave of electronic pop acts which swept the UK in the wake of Tubeway Army's "Are Friends Electric", with which this is roughly contemporary. Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark were, however, unashamedly pop. This single has a very catchy hook line driven by some remarkably upbeat sounding synthesisers and the trademark McCluskey vocals. What is interesting is that the theme of the track is the decline in the worlds renewable energy resources and the need to develop renewable ones, especially solar power. Very prophetic.
