Sometimes you come across the strangest of likings in the most unexpected of places. A few weeks ago, while exiting the Blue October show I stopped at the merch booth. The Rap duo of Greg G and Ray C were there, getting ready for their collaboration with the aforementioned Blue October. Having guest appeared on the new Blue October album "Any Man In America" Ray C is becoming a hyped name all on his own. They handed me a King Mike mix-tape named Value Meal.
Alternating tracks just about every two songs, Ray C starts off the release with "Hottest of the Hot" with clear and concise rhymes over a varied beat. Greg G's track four, "One", has a mainstream feel to it, mincing Hip Hop and R&B like few tracks here. Following it up is probably the track most ready for radio. Ray C's, "Lame Ass" has a hook that will stay with you all day.
One track that fits the funk fan would be Greg G, "Release", circa Musab "Slicks Box". Track eight, also Greg G's "Gettin Mine", follows a more traditional Rap beat and feel. Top notch scratch efforts and vicious rhyme on "In These Streets" by Ray C while track 12, "Flashy" has a feverent Rap atmosphere.
Although, most who know me, KNOW I don't enjoy rap, this collection of tracks has a balance of more than Rap.Walking that fine line of Hip Hop, R&B, Soul and just a taste of Rap style, Ray C and Greg G team up to make on hell of a mix tape here.
