There were a number of acts in the US during the eighties which fell within the same niche, something which came to be known as college rock. A few of them, most notably R.E.M. went onto become massive mainstream artists, but most never had the mass appeal to break out beyond that niche. The dBs were one such outfit. "Black and White" is an early example of powerpop-jangle pop cross over and was probably their best track. They produced a few albums and gained something of a cult following, helping to define what eventually became known as the southern sound (even though they all hailed from New York). The songwriting is good and the music has a good bouncy melody and some little snippets to keep you interested. This should have been more widely known, frankly.
