Putumayo is heating up the music for the summer months with their latest offering simply called Jamaica. What do you expect from a compilation called Jamaica? Only the best of Reggae style to ever come out of the tropical isle. Putumayo succeeds in bringing together a variety of old classic reggae into one fantastic sunny compilation. Making appearances on Jamaica are Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh, Black Uhuru, Toots and the Maytals as well as some lesser known but equally important artists such as Culture, Augustus Pablo, and The Gladiators. A few newer bands such as Isreal Vibration made the compilation too. The infectious beat of reggae has proven to be very influential over the years. It provides for a great party atmosphere as well as a great soundtrack to a lazy day in the sun. It is a very diverse style of music that can be easily adapted to. It is almost unfortunate that most people have Legend by Bob Marley in their CD collection and the feel that they have enough reggae. If they only realized how expansive the genre really is. Putumayo have managed to prove that a collection of reggae can actually be complete with a track by Bob. Look no further than the super catchy “Upside Down� by the late Joe Higgs.
