And now for something completely different. For Equal Vision anyway. The closest that Equal Vision has ever ventured into the pop territory is Saves The Day but Rocking Horse Winner takes the cake for pop. This is acually the band’s sophomore album but their first for the hardcore label. Jolie Lindholm (lead vocals) may have found a bit of fame as a guest vocalist with Dashboard Confessional and they probably hope that stint can carry Rocking Horse Winner. While this band isn’t going to appeal to the standard Equal Vision crowd, it will reach out to fans of bands like the Sundays and Bettie Serveert. Jolie’s voice is the focal point on all of the songs and while the tracks aren’t instantly hummable or catchy they do fare well with repeated listens. This is obvious with the band creeping up the CMJ charts. The album opener, “Orange Blossom is the highlight here. Horizon is filled with pop sweetness that doesn’t cause cavities. To be safe, brush after consumption.
