This is the nasty song that "Crocodile Rock" wished it could have been but never had the balls to be. I can even detect some similarity with that song in the musical construction but that is not relevant really. The difference is that, while "Crocodile Rock" was regretful of what was lost, "The Bitch Is Back" is regretful at having given it away for so little in return. More explicit that most of Mr. Dwight's usual output, this was pretty much obligatory chanting music for every kid who had got dumped by some girl to sing with his mates whenever she walked into the school dining room. Kids can be so cruel. More up-tempo than a lot of Elton John's work, especially his later stuff, he seemed to have borrowed a bit of rock from his stint as the Pinball Wizard in the Who's film "Tommy". Nonetheless, that rocked-up funky intro which the song rolls into is still guaranteed to light up a day.
