A flute! Is that a goddam flute?! Yes, it is. Focus did not make as much use of the flute on this track as they did on many others, but it remarkable how much the addition of one instrument, so rarely used in rock, can make bands sound the same. Everytime I hear this I think of Jethro Tull, except that I could stand virtually nothing which Tull ever did.
Not only is there a flute, but there is a falsetto voice mumbling nothing of any significance when the song goes quiet. It is almost as if this was an anti-hit and yet it reached number four in the UK singles charts. Perhaps it was that cracking guitar riff, when it came in, which did it. I don't know, but there really is something to this song which makes me remember that I used to like it as a kid.
