RecommendHeartbeat brings us this flavourful collection of tracks that were originally recorded for the Treasure Isle label. It is a lively set of original Ska that sounds as important today as it was back in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Artists that are included on Showtime are Hopeton Lewis, The Paragons, The Melodians, Tommy and Roy, U Roy (an unreleased track called “Rock Away� is included here with U Roy and the Melodians), Phyllis Dillon, Alton Ellis, The Techniques, and many more. You can hear what this movement was trying to do with fusing the R&B style that had become popular with a reggae style backbeat. Showtime is a great look into where Ska came from and a genre that is almost completely indiginous to Jamaica.
