One of Dusty Springfield's finest vocal performances, "Son of a Preacher Man" also marked a move away from the strict white soul of Springfield's earlier career and into a more jazz feeling. Slickly produced and stylishly executed, it is a song which has stood the test of time and moved Dusty Springfield up into the ranks of the true greats. From this point on, she would be an icon to millions, and someone to copy in every respect - where do you think Amy Winehouse got the idea for her beehive from? Sadly, the sort of music she sang was at its peak with this recording and afterwards she slowly began to drift from popularity. But never let it be said that she could not hold it with the best of them.
