I was very pleased with this album from Michael Jerome Browne. He incorporates many different influences into his style of blues music including ragtime, zydeco, folk, and western swing. He is a master of many different instruments including banjo, many kinds of guitar, and the fiddle. His vocals are very soft and easy to listen to but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t roll out some rockers. He does the best rendition of Al Green’s “I’m a Ram since Gordie Johnson. He sings with soul and passion that is a real bonus. His choices of songs are very well thought out including tracks from Stevie Wonder (“Gotta Have You), Billie Holliday (“He Ain’t Got Rhythm), and many different traditional songs that are brilliantly arranged. This is an album that deserves repeated listens and Michael Jerome Browne will have to work hard to improve on Drive On.
