There is some music which is just too American for my taste. As such, I have tended to steer away from it. It is not that there is anything intrinsically wrong with it, it is just that it doesn't relate to me in any meaningful way. Tom Petty has always fallen into that category. Just occasionally, though, he comes up with a song which transcends that barrier and causes me to take an interest in it. There is nothing particularly brilliant about it, just a catchy hook and a good call and response refrain. Worth listening to, but not worth buying a whole album for.
