Of the many versions of this song, covered by many of the finest soul singers of the sixties, this is just about the best. I am not really sure why the song should be such a success as it has some of the daftest lyrics imaginable. But who cares. Listen to that short sharp burst of the jangly guitar before the titular lines are delivered; feel the energy of the song as it races through its paces; fall in love with the jerky, almost stop-start rhythm. James Brown may have issued the most well-known version, but Otis's far surpasses it in terms of quality.
